Jewellery Story

A diamond stud, a chain necklace,

A strand of pearl maybe

a bangle here, a ring there

Any kind of jewellery,

of any material known to man

Metal, enamel, stones and bones

Beaded, stringed, knotted or soldered

As an amulet or talisman

Odd beauty it maybe

Or an exquisite ornament

To highlight the beauty of a human body

from pricey to fancy

Each has its own story and memory

Of childhood dreams,

teen-age fantasies,

grown-up realities,

middle age regrets,

old-age bittersweet thoughts

Of life’s struggles

achievements,

confusions,

bliss

til comes death’s kiss

some jewellery we lost

some jewellery we keep

some lasts for a while

some lasts for a time

as a family heirloom

or locked up in a museum

for their beauty

for their value

for their worth

but above all,

for the memories they carry

to tell the story…
